Ok, so Sean has been a favorite and Peter is a love of mine then I found delicious Jon but, Bryan…oh, my, I think he’s going to own my heart!

Hate how short the volumes are, hate how knotted up the writing gets me when I'm left dangling over the precipice, hate the high price for so short of a story piece, but.... I love how I can get so wrapped and entangled into the drama and emotional storm of the characters I forget how many pages are there to begin with. I love how in depth the characters can be made with so little words. I love the angst in each volume of the Ferro family that keeps me coming back like some crazed addict and this one is no different. It has wrapped me around its little finger just like the rest of the Ferro family have done in the past. The story is short, does cut off right when it gets good and I'm sold for the next installment when I can get my next fix of my choice drug...Ferro.
While the characters are developed ok what they do and how they react is just short of someone's wildest fantasies. The main character is shallow and brainless to say the least. Her roomate is a hooker who doesn't get paid, and her best friend (spoiler alert) is an undercover guy who spends lots of time supposedly watching her. As if that isn't complicated enough our heroine in order to stay in school becomes part of a "dating" service who finds excuse after excuse why she won't have sex with the guy who hired her. Yet she is wildly popular... To top it all off, this series is up to book 20 (each book under 200 pages) with no end in sight. That's $59.80 and the story isn't finished yet. Greedy! Greedy!
What a fantastic beginning to a story. I've never read any of H.M. Ward's books, but have already ordered everyone that I can find. What a fantastic author. In just a few short chapters she gets me into the space with Hallie Montgomery, Neil Scortz and her best friend and fellow orphan, Maggie.
Hallie has been dating Neil for several years at this point. He is in graduate school to become a psychologist, but he appears to have little or no empathy. He is quite rigid in his thinking. Hallie is suffering greatly from grief over the loss of her father and the guilt over his spending money for her that he did not have. Now, thy are going to foreclose on her home. She will be left with nothing. She is despondent and decides to write out her life of pain with those few bits of shining happiness. She decides to send her life in written form out into the world by hitting publish on her computer. She thought no one would read her life story, but oh how wrong she was about that.
Years ago she had a highly sexual affair with Bryan Ferro and she included much of that in the book, changing his name, of course. What happens next is the heart of this story's beginning.
Can't wait to start book 2!
What can i say about this story beyond that I'm gushing over it and can't wait to read more? All I can say is, Wow! Bryan Ferro is one hot man - so dark and twisted - and I just can't wait to find out what makes him that way. What happened between him and Hallie that led him to the point of blackmailing her? Why did they really part ways? These are the questions I really want the answers to because I can tell there's so much more there than appears on the surface. And poor Hallie, she's torn up by her loss and conflicted by her feelings for Bryan and her boyfriend is a real jerk, so I really feel for her. I understand why she wants to strike out at the two men in her life, currently - Ferro and her boyfriend Neil - but it's the boyfriend I want her to give the heave ho to. The guy turned into a heartless bastard the minute he realized how much money she stood to make from her book. And he's such a pretentious snob, the way he talks to her about her book and the way she was in her past, trying to make her feel like what she did with Ferro was animalistic and unnatural. Every time I see his name on the page, I just want to scream "Dump him!" because he's showing his true colors - and that he doesn't truly deserve her. But you've got to love her friend Maggie and I do - hopefully she'll be able to talk some sense into Hallie where Neil is concerned.
